Public Forum Meeting

The NJ Office of Special Education will be holding a Public Forum Meeting at the South River High School Auditorium from 6:30-9pm.

They will be there to hear from the parents of children in special education in South River.

Come to this meeting to make sure that they know of your experiences with the Special Education services of South River!

The New Jersey Department of Special Education will be in district monitoring the South

River Department of Special Education on January 15th and 16th.

They may contact you to discuss items in your child’s educational file. Please take the time to answer their questions fully and to the best of your abilities.

South River Holiday Events:

South River Tree Lighting

The South River Department of Recreation will be holding it’s annual tree lighting ceremony at Dailey’s Pond on Friday December 6th at 7pm.

Come and enjoy the Holiday spirit with your neighbors!

There will be performances by the South River H.S. Choir, Jazz Band, and the Girl and Boy Scouts of South River.

Don’t forget that Santa arrives by Fire Truck to wish everyone a Happy Holiday Season!

Menorah Lighting

The South River Department of Recreation will be lighting a candle for each night of Hanukkah at a Menorah placed at Dailey’s Pond to celebrate Hanukkah starting at 7pm on December 10th till December 17th.

(The F.A.T. City Workshop)

Rick Lavoie, is a nationally recognized authority on learning differences (LD) and has spent more than 30 years working with kids who struggle to learn, as well as their parents and teachers. His PBS videotape, How Difficult Can This Be? The F.A.T. City Workshop is a classic in the field of learning differences. He has consulted to over 400 school systems in 42 states, and has presented over 2,500 keynote addresses and workshops to schools, institutions and agencies. Lavoie is currently the Director of Schwab Learning.

Fee: $50.00 a ticket by Nov. 30th

$60.00 a ticket at the door.

South River to Start an

Adaptive T-Ball League

The South River Dept. of Recreation will be starting an adaptive t-ball league for children with special needs in March of 2002.

Registration fee per child will be $20.00 and children must supply their own mitt. All other equipment including t-shirts and hats will be provided by the South River

Recreation Department.

*This program is run entirely by the South River Dept. of Recreation.

Practices will be held on Saturday mornings at Varga Park in South River and will run for 12 weeks.

If you are interested in signing your child up for t-ball this spring, please fill out the attached form. SEPTA will be contacting you in early March to notify you of registration dates and practice schedules as a courtesy to our community.

Learn How to Develop an I.E.P. to Maximize Your Child’s Potential:

Monday, Feb. 4th 7-9pm

SEPTA of South River and the Statewide Parent Advocacy Network will be hosting a free public workshop on Monday, February 4th from 7-9pm at the South River Elementary Library.

You will learn how to help develop an Individual Education Plan for your child that will lead him or her towards academic achievement.

Learn about your rights and your child’s to:

*Augmentative devices/ computer assisted technology.

*Least restrictive placements

*Parent’s right to be an equal member of the child study team in helping develop an I.E.P. for your child.

*Learn tools to help you as a parent make sure that your child is receiving the best possible I.E.P. to maximize their academic growth.
