Audience:

Parents of elementary and middle school children who are learning disabled, at risk, or identified for compensatory education

Instructor:

Barbara N. Selikoff, MS Ed, Educational Consultant, a Former trainer for the New Jersey Department of Education

Purpose:

This workshop will identify the basic components of learning and why some children struggle in school. The skills necessary for achieving success will be described. Suggestions will be given to the parents for helping their children identify their strengths and weaknesses and set goals for themselves based on a needs assessment.

Goals:

  1. To determine how the learning style of every child is different.
  2. To list and prioritize which skills are necessary for school success.
  3. To identify the role of the parent in assisting the child.
  4. To present suggestions for improving the child's ability to acquire skills.
