Welcome to The Special Education PTA of South River's Web site.

since June 16,2002.
SEPTA was founded in early 1997 through the efforts of a handful of parents and teachers who wanted to make a difference in the lives of the Special Education children in South River. Our goal was to promote the welfare of Special Ed children by providing parents the tools they need to be more effective advocates for their children.
A year later on January 27, 1998 we were chartered by the New Jersey Congress of Parents and Teachers, becoming affiliated with the New Jersey State and National PTAs. The National PTA is the oldest and largest volunteer organization in the country dedicated to child advocacy with over 6.2 million members in 26,000 local units in the 50 states, the District of Columbia, US Virgin Islands and US Military bases in Europe and the Pacific.
With the belief that educated parents can be more effective advocates SEPTA has sponsored a variety workshops on topics such as:
Child advocacy.
Changes in Special Education Laws and Regulations.
Arranging for some one to care for your child when you are no longer able to.
Financial Planning for a Special Needs Child.
Understanding what it is like to be Learning Disabled.
Understanding the importance of reading in your child's development.
Behavior Management.
ADD / ADHD.
Thanks to these programs SEPTA received the New Jersey PTA Great IDEA Award at their 2002 and 2003 Convention.
Also SEPTA recieved the New Jersey PTA Outstanding Website Award at their 2005 Convention.
This web site was developed and will continue to develop with these goals in mind. We welcome your comments and suggestions, feel free to either sign our guest book or to E-Mail us.
